The mission of the New Richmond
Parks and Recreation Commission
is to promote the renovation and the
expansion of the Villages growing
park system along with utilizing existing
facilities within the Village to stage
recreational events for both youth
and adults. The Parks and Recreation
Commission was revitalized following the
severe 1997 flooding of the Ohio River
to help refurbish an aging park system
and also prepare for the growth of new
parks following the Villages purchase
of flood damaged properties through two
federally funded mitigation programs.
These properties are restricted to
park/open space type usage. Also, the
Recreation Commission allowed for an
umbrella type agency to serve over the
many events, which occur in the Village
during the summer months along with
the creation of new events such as the
widely popular Day in the Park.
The Parks and Recreation Commission
was formulated per the provisions of the
Ohio Revised Code, which includes
appointments by the local School District,
and consists of five residents,
one of which is a Village Council member.
They hold regularly scheduled monthly
meetings and administer a budget of
approximately $30,000.
