U.S. 52 Complete Streets & Liberty Landing

Project Description: Scheduled for construction in 2024, the U.S. 52 Complete Streets  project converts four lanes of US 52 into two lanes that will begin to the northwest of the core village.  The current southbound lanes are to be converted into a multi-modal bike/pedestrian path. Four existing intersections are to be converted into modern roundabouts meeting the latest design standards.

Besides providing improved safety, traffic flow and air quality benefits, the conversion of two lanes into a dedicated hike/bike path reduces future maintenance costs and creates inviting gateways into the core historic village for pedestrians and bikers as well as motorists. The completed project will connect Liberty Landing on the Ohio River to the U.S 52 hike/bike trail via a loop trail.

A National Park Service recognized Underground Railroad site, Liberty Landing includes terraces as well as extending the hike/bike trail along the river. The terraces create greenspace for public gatherings to enjoy river recreational activities and the Showboat Majestic, a National Historic Landmark. The project efficiently connects and enhances existing recreational, cultural and historic assets.
